Desperate times call for desperate measures and that is the case of Manchester United’s midfield which has been so desperate that Sir Alex Ferguson had to call Paul Scholes back from retirement. The 37 year old Midfielder who retired at the season end has now been recalled and starts his first game back from bench against the city rivals Manchester City in the FA cup 3rd round clash. Although it has been confirmed he will be staying in the First team until the end of season only.
The decision comes as a shock for everybody as it comes out of blue and their was no prior information about this before the City game. The red devils had been linked with Frank Lampard, Wesley Sneijder and other players but Fergie has given all a surprise by placing trust in his old horse instead. United are short in numbers as injuries has seen the team stretch to limit and coming from back to back league defeats, fearing for further damage it can proove to be a good decision by Alex Ferguson. But if United officials are to be believed then it was Scholes himself who asked the manger to take him back which sounds dubious as why a player who decided to hang his boots just 6 months back suddenly have a change of heart and decide to play again. The injury to Darren Fletcher seems to have forced Alex Ferguson to bring back the midfilder.
Whatever it is Paul Scholes will add experience and quality like Thierry Henry at Arsenal but unlike him he will have a longer stay, and will be more versed with the current pace and tactics in the league.
