We all remember how last winter transfer window went about with Chelsea and Liverpool making record-breaking deals on the deadline day by spending in excess of £140 million overall, buying Andy Caroll, Luis Suarez,Fernando Torres and David Luiz. But this time we are in for disappointment atleast from one side that is Liverpool, with their manager Kenny Dalglish confirming that there would be no Transfer Activity for the senior team, neither exits nor new signings.
Buzz was that, Liverpool are in for Carlos Tevez the deserted Argentine striker, as his proposed move towards Italian club AC milan and cash rich Paris Saint Germain fell apart, and that they had even offered Andy Carroll in straight swap for the striker who is no longer in plans of Manchester City manager Roberto Manccini. Bundesliga winger Marko Marin who is currently playing at Weder Bremen and is a long time Liverpool target was also speculated to be monitored over by Director of Football Damien Comolli, but with Kenny’s statement it seems all deals will now have to wait for May. Liverpool’s fans were frustrated after the dull and drab performances against both Stoke and Bolton and were questioning the tactics of Manger and if such a statement would have been made then, Fans would had taken it in a different taste, but fast forward one week and after guiding Liverpool to a Wembley final and also beating Eternal rivals Manchester United the Kop will surely put their faith in manager and respect his decision.
Signings of a striker and a winger were very much expected after the high profile failures Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll who have had no major contribution to their names till now. And also the problem of lack of goals which has put Liverpool in 7th place and 6 points behind automatic Champions League Qualification, was thought would be addressed during January. But it seems Kenny wants to put his trust in the Squad, but failing to qualify for the Champions League for the 3rd straight year will be a huge blow for Liverpool, both for Economic reasons as well as for attracting top talents from Europe as all top players like Eden Hazard,Mario Goetze etc. which LFC aspire to sign will want to play in the club football’s biggest competition. Even the owners at the start of season mentioned that after over £110 mn investment it will be disappointment to not Qualify for CL.
